Zoom Stuff

Come on and zooma zooma zooma-ZOOM!

I don’t know if I ever mentioned it publicly, but my New Years resolution was to cook more and catch up on TV.

Sorry about that.

Anyway, this newsletter issue is Zoom themed. It seems to be the video conferencing winner of the covid-19 emergency rush to virtual life. Even the Texas Court system is using it. If you’re new to Zoom, Texas has a good get started resource guide for using it.

Protect Your Zoom Calls

I’ve read about public Zoom events being crashed by trolls and, even more concerning, private situations like virtual therapy visits being discoverable on the web. The Electronic Frontier Foundation has a guide to protecting your Zoom events.

Look Good On Video

Prior to covid-19, I very rarely turned on my video during Zoom meetings because my screen/laptop set up in my office made for bad angles plus I usually “multi-task” (especially during webinar type meetings) and I don’t want to be OBVIOUSLY rude and seen not fully paying attention.

However, given the lack of f2f human interaction I have with my colleagues , I’m going to try and be better about getting on video. CNET has some good tips on how to look your best. Groupon had a deal for a ring light and phone/microphone holder earlier this week. I keep threatening to start a YouTube channel about my dad and my quarantine adventures and I was really tempted to get it.

Fun Backgrounds

Now for the real point of this post - fun Zoom backgrounds. Lots of people have been creating them for our newly home bound life. I’ve been collecting links and I thought I finally have enough to dump them here. I wonder if any legal firms/companies have created branded ones? I love that the above mentioned Texas Court guide even has a background.
